Transferring prevention programmes from N America to Europe

We have previously discussed the issue of fidelity when it comes to transferring prevention programmes from development trials to the 'real world' and from one country to another , overcoming cultural and language barriers. This Thematic paper by the EMCDDA looks at whether prevention programmes that have been developed in the US and Canada could be successfully implemented in Europe. The paper presents experiences of adapting and implementing four innovative and proven North American drug prevention programmes in Europe, (the Good Behaviour Game, Preventure, Strengthening Families Program and Communities that Care) showing the clear potential of transferring such programmes and avoiding the cliché of culture as a barrier to implementation.
